EMDR therapist & psychologist Fiona Stuart
If you have experienced a very difficult event in your life and you are suffering from difficult symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, or heart palpitations, you may feel like the memory of that event is in control of you rather than the other way around.
You may have tried talking therapies but don’t feel they have helped. Perhaps you have heard about EMDR but are not sure what it is all about. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy can be an effective treatment for people who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or similar symptoms.
The technique involves helping the brain to process the event to become a memory rather than a current anxiety. There is relatively little talking that goes on during this type of therapy because I will be helping your brain process the event the way it should have done had you not been in shock at the time of the original trauma.
This aim is for this technique to be effective within about 6 sessions, so is relatively quick compared to other types of therapy. As a therapist I think you will find me to be down to earth and straightforward, my clients frequently describe me as a ‘breath of fresh air’.
My aim is to help you feel in control of your thoughts and fears again, so that you can feel resilient and positive about your future. Location & hours: The therapy would take place in Sheffield Wellness Centre on Abbeydale Road, which is a lovely building in a very convenient location.
