“I worked as a medical secretary and administrator for approximately 12 years. I have also worked in charities as it has always been important to me to work for an ethical organisation that is there to help people.
Although I enjoyed working in charity administration I wanted to find a way to help people in a more hands on way.
I wanted to help people to feel relaxed and soothed in a calming environment. I have volunteered in various charities such as the Samaritans and Relate, exploring different ways of supporting people. I have always been intrigued by the spiritual paths in life and approximately 5 years ago discovered how the various paths and their practises can help in times of stress.
I began engaging more seriously in various forms of yoga, meditation and spiritual philosophy to find my own true, fulfilling path.
A couple of years into this time, I began volunteering at a charity that supported disadvantaged women. They had a beauty salon and therapy room with courses as a way of helping women into employment.
I had not had many massages myself in the past but was always inquisitive about the effects it has on a person and the massage therapist. I was somehow drawn to it. A few months into volunteering there was an open day where there was a lady promoting reflexology.
After speaking to her I was very intrigued and wanted to know more. Shortly after I found some training that incorporated both these therapies along with aromatherapy. After the first course, I knew it was the right thing for me to do and that I wanted to commit to studying the diploma.
I felt so contented and soothed whilst providing the treatments. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had and I love seeing people so relaxed after a treatment. I have since tried a variety of treatments in a range of environments and believe relaxing in this way in like a tonic to the soul, helping us to connect with our hearts and each other.
The next training that I am starting this year is Reiki. I am drawn to the more spiritual side of complementary therapies and very much support the holistic view of a person.
I have met some beautiful people through providing complementary therapies and look forward to meeting many more along the way.
