Counselling & CBT With Lindsay Brittain
"Hi, my name is Lindsay, I am an Empowerment Coach, Trainer, and Women's Counsellor. I specialise in anxiety, low self-esteem, and assertiveness training. I use CBT extensively in my work as it is a proven effective treatment for these difficulties.
I completed my training as a psychotherapist and counsellor within a domestic and sexual abuse service, which sparked my initial interest in and low self-esteem and assertiveness. I quickly realised how effective CBT strategies are in treating these problems and the anxiety that goes hand in hand with them.
After my training I became an Associate Therapist at Sheffield CBT Practice where I continued my training in CBT within counselling. I went on to study education and training, and now I run CTB based, Confidence and Assertiveness Workshops at Sheffield Wellness Centre alongside working as a one to one therapist there.
I have worked at length with trauma and abuse, but you don't have to have experienced this to work with me. So many life situations and the messages we internalise from them can affect our confidence and self-esteem. Talking about our experiences allows us to 're-frame' them, so they are remembered as 'part of our story' rather than powerful emotional and sensory responses which can impact so much on day-to-day life and make us feel anxious and scared.
Basically we learn to let go of the emotions we subconsciously connect to the memories.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use a range of strategies with a strong emphasis on CBT which I blend with Sub-Personality Work. Thinking of yourself in 'parts' is so helpful; you are not just your thoughts, part of you is anxious, part of you is self-critical, but there is a part of you that can take care of yourself and instinctively act your own best interest, together we'll find her."
